If he likes the Tour, the closest phone to it w/o getting a Torch would be the Bold 9700. It's basically a souped up Tour and has the touchpad instead of the rollerball. You'd be a lot more likely to sweet-talk an AT&T rep into getting you one of those for free or minimal cost than to get a Torch for anything less than the 300 bucks CD mentioned above.

I have a Tour on Verizon, and my wife has a Bold 9650, and while hers is pretty cool--the difference is negligible between the two for me. I'm going to hang on to my Tour as long as I can, at least until I'm forced into something else.
